Objectives

General objective:

After completing this module, the student/applicant will be able to:
- Understand the evolution of safety in aviation during the past decades and the need to move to a systematic approach to managing safety including the necessary organizational structure, accountabilities, policies and procedures.
- Evaluate the strenghs and weaknesses of an Organization from a safety standpoint.

Detailed objectives:

After completing this module, the student/applicant will be able to:
- Understand the principles and objectives of safety in aviation
- Understand the evolutions in the aviation safety during the last decades
- Understand the limitations of traditional safety management methods
- Explain the main principles of the human factor approach
- Describe the key human factor components relevant for aviation activities
- Understand the regulatory requirements and specifically ICAO Annex 19
- Understand the Air Transport System and particularly its organisation
- Understand the corporate and business practices of a company
- Describe the general principles of SMS and SSP
- Understand the links between SMS and other management systems
- Understand the basic principles of the management of change related to safety activities
- Understand the boundaries between SMS development and legal aspects of Civil Aviation Law
