RG402E - Aircraft airworthiness and structural design

RG402E - Aircraft airworthiness and structural design

Objectifs

Objectif général :

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to present the aircraft safety system through the design principles, ADDED (NP) describe a transport airplane airframe, the airframe failure modes and the safety requirements.

Objectifs détaillés :

Upon completion of the first part of this course, the student shall be able to:

· remind the general principles laid down by ICAO, and quote the main applicable requirements (with a focus on EASA Part 21), for designing and manufacturing a product
· explain what the DOA and POA are, and describe the associated constraints
· describe the type certification / validation process
· describe the general principles of production / conformity process
· apply these principles to simple case studies

· list and describe the different elements of a transport airplane structure (wing, fuselage, empennage, landing gears) and describe their role
· explain the main design principles (box design, stiffned skin, joints)
· describe the main failure modes and more particularly fatigue, cracking, corrosion, and flutter
· list and describe the main differences between metallic and composite materials
· describe the safety requirements applicable to structures (general requirements, load cases, materials, structural requirements throughout A/C life, aeroelasticity, miscellaneous)
