Objectifs

Objectif général :

After completing this module, the student/applicant will be able to:
- describe the architecture, functions and pilot interfaces of airborne communication, navigation and surveillance systems, and the relevant regulatory aspects (norms, standards).

Objectifs détaillés :

After completing this module, the student/applicant will be able to:
- For communication systems
o describe the airborne means of communication
o describe the data link communication techniques: the ACARS (Airline Communication, Addressing and Reporting System), and the ATN (Aeronautical Telecommunication Network) & SATCOM & VHF data link subnetworks.
- For navigation systems
o characterize signals structure, performances and limitations of conventional radio navigation aids, and describe their operational use by the crew
o characterize airborne navigation systems architecture: large aircraft & business jets, FMS (flight management system), RNP regulatory & safety aspects
o describe approach and landing operations and associated airborne architectures
- For surveillance systems
o describe surveillance architecture : ATC transponder, TCAS, ADS-B, TAWS, Weather radar, Integrated surveillance system
o define ASAS concept
