EA6015E - Airport Design and Operation Master Plan

Objectives

General objective:

After completing this module, the student will be able to :
- Explain the impact of airport infrastructure on aviation safety,
- Explain the relationship between airport accessibility and airport equipment,
- Specify all components of an airport and to describe their role and the interactions between them,
- Propose a Master Plan.

Detailed objectives:

After completing this module, the student will be able to :
- Identify and, with a given regulatory framework, to correctly assess and specify for design and publication purposes the following airport infrastructures according to local conditions and the expected traffic:
- movement area and related protection
- helistations
- airport buildings
- Explain the safety objectives of all components of a movement area
- Identify the key factors impacting airport capacity
- Assess the relevance of a traffic forecast
- Determine the measures to accommodate a new aircraft on an airport
- Describe the possible measures to deal with obstacles
- Propose a development plan for an airport based on existing facilities and constraints and traffic growth assumptions, and including the development and the optimization of the runway system, the aprons, and the main buildings like the terminals, the ARFF station, and the tower.
