Objectives

General objective:

After completing this module, the student will be familiar with the basics of operational safety and safety management applicable on aerodromes.

Detailed objectives:

After completing this module, the student will be able to :
1. Explain the main concepts related to safety
2. Distinguish the EASA regulatory approach from the ICAO regulatory approach in the aerodrome safety context
3. Give several examples of the EASA regulatory components applying to aerodromes
4. Define the successive steps of the airport certification process
5. Outline the main features of airport operational safety regarding the following topics:
a. rescue and fire-fighting service
b. works
c. wildlife hazard management
d. solutions to reduce runway excursions
e. emergency response plan
f. airside management
g. apron activities
6. Sketch the organisation and the steps of an accident or incident investigation process
7. Compare the SMS processes and procedures of an aerodrome operator against the requirements and/or best practices
8. Apply the risk management principes and criteria
9. Differentiate the successive stages of a safety-related occurrence scenario
10. Use safety-related data to appreciate safety performance
11. Categorise the safety-related topics of an aerodrome training programme
12. Describe the phases of implementation of the SMS of an aerodrome operator
