IN4014 - Innovation methods
Objectives
General objective:
The students will be able to identify and apply appropriate innovation methodologies when confronted with a given innovation process or product.
Detailed objectives:
Detailed objectives encompass:
- To identify the theoretical foundations of the different tools and methods of creativity and support for innovation processes
- Take a step back, assess the relevance and limitations of these methods in relation to the project's objectives
- Implement the different methods by adapting and combining them according to the context
- Facilitate creative sessions and build group dynamics
- Capitalize, reformulate and reuse the ideas generated during the sessions
Particular attention will be paid to:
1) on TRIZ and especially ASIT methods to learn how to use problem solving methods. ASIT is a structured creativity method (developed by Dr. Roni Horowitz during his thesis in 1999) that aims to:
a) Creatively solve complex or historical problems
b) Invent innovative product (goods or services) or process concepts. In order to equip the brainstorming process, ASIT allows to stimulate a group by using the elements of the context and the constraints of a situation to allow a team to innovate.
ASIT includes tools that allow us to "think" about the problem in all its dimensions and to consider solutions or innovations that would not naturally come to mind.
2) on the C-K theory which defines design reasoning as a logic of expansion processes, i.e. a logic that organizes the production of unknown objects. The theory is based on several traditions of design theory that allows:
a) to formalize the concept generation process and its alternatives
b) identify the knowledge necessary to explore avenues based on the proposed concepts
