SP5008 - Channel coding

SP5008 - Channel coding

General objective:

At the end of the course the student shall be able to:
- justify the interest of channel coding
- know different families of code
- not only to evaluate the performances of a code but also to compare different codes

Detailed objectives:

1.Reminder of information theory
- Entropy, mutual information
- Channel models: binary symmetric channel, white Gaussian noise, band-limited white Gaussian noise
- Interest of channel coding
2. Linear codes in blocs
- Theorem of HAMMING
- Generator matrix, syndrome
- HAMMING code
- Cyclic codes
- Corps de GALOIS
- BCH codes and Codes of Reed Solomon
3. Convolutional codes:
- Coder, state diagrams (tree and trellis)
- Decoding by Viterbi algorithm
- Performance measurement, borne de l'union
- Codes poinconnés
- Systematic codes
4. Modulation coded in treillis:
