AE403E - Mechanics of materials
Objectives
General objective:
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
-identify and describe different charges applied to a cell;
-define and describe basic concepts of material resistance (beam model, constraints calculation, dimensioning of simple structures, buckling);
-quote and describe a general structure of different parts of a cell, explain the reasons that conducted to this particular design;
-quote and describe materials used in aeronautical construction (their properties, specificities and choice criteria);
-describe and explain differences between failure modes in statics and fatigue, know their respective mechanisms, make simple calculation of fatigue damage.
Detailed objectives:
At the end of the course the student will be able to :
- calculate the stress and the strain due to traction/compression, bending moment, transverse force and torsion torque for beams under simplified loading.
- calculate the stress in structural joints joints
