AV4601 - Aircraft

AV4601 - Aircraft

Objectives

General objective:

At the end of this course, the student will be able to compute the order of magnitude of the overall characteristics of an airplane which satisfies a given set of requirements using a dedicated software.

Detailed objectives:

Describe main phases of an aircraft design project and explain main stakes of each of them.
Describe the airplane conceptual design multidisciplinary activity and enumerate its input, output and stakes.
Describe and explain each aircraft component using a level of granularity compatible with conceptual design approach and apply on them main tools of functional analysis.
Describe and explain how to model aerodynamic behavior, mass breakdown and propulsion of an airplane at conceptual design level.
Describe and explain how to model operational performances at conceptual design level.
Describe (both read or draw) a design process at conceptual level using N2 and XDSM diagrams.
List and describe typical mathematical tools used for multidisciplinary design process at conceptual level.
Describe and explain how to implement an automatic design process in Python using simple models and of the shelf solvers and optimizers.
Compute main characteristics of an airplane satisfying to a given set of requirements using Python models and processes.
