CA337 - Practical Training APS1

Objectives

General objective:

At the end of this phase, in a global simulation, the student will be able to provide control service, flight information service and alerting service to IFR and VFR aircraft in an approach control sector. This sector is made of a major aerodrome plus a secondary aerodrome that is located outside the radar coverage.
Both aerodrome have IFR procedure in controlled airspace.
The student will alternatively do the tasks of the planner controller and the tasks of the executive controller

Detailed objectives:

Expected competencies:

1. Safety
The student playing the role of the executive controller detects and resolves the conflicts inside the sector, resolves conflict at the sector exit, provide traffic information.
The student, playing the role of the planner controller detects and resolves the conflict at the sector entrance, detects the conflicts at the sector exit.

2. Traffic management:
The student, as an executive controller, provides radar control service and procedural control service, flight information service and alerting service. He will take care of the intermediate segment, the class of airspace, the minimum altitudes, the conditions of transfer. He shows a good management of the headings, FL and speed.
The student, as a planner, determines the holding list at Costes aerodrome, calculates the EAT, manages the departures and arrivals list.

3. Communication, coordination:
The student, as an executive controller, uses reglementory phraseology, can communicate clearly and precisely, ask for coordinations at the right time.
The student, as a planner, can communicate clearly and precisely, realises coordinations on time, to the correct interlocutor, on request or on his personal initiative.

4. procedures:
The student, as an executive controller and as a planner, will follow the procedures, the local instructions and the working methods.

5. HMI:
The student, as an executive controller and as a planner controller, will update the paper strips and the strip board and utilise the tools.

6. Multitasks:
As both executive or planner, the student will be able to deal simultanuously with various tasks.

7. Situation awareness:
As both executive and planner, the student will have a good situation awareness through the update of the strips, the stripboard, the visual circuit and a good monitoring of the flights.

8. Strategy:
The student as an executive controller can make choices et can adapt them according to the situation.
The student as a planner determines the numbers in the hold at Cates, the departures order.. and shows good lfexibility.

9. Decision making:
The student as an executive controller correctly adresses his priorities, make good decisions adapted to the situation.
The student as a planner respect the coherence of actions and performs coordinations on his own initiative.

10. Team work:
As both planner and executive controller, the student can maintain a concentration suitable for the task with no tendancy to focus or dispersion.
