Objectives

General objective:

Principal theoretical tools for strategy analysis

Detailed objectives:

At the end of this course, the learners should be able to:
- Explain the main issues that air transport faces today: the global health crisis, the impact on climate, the evolution of competition, etc.
- Present in details the main theoretical concepts of strategic analysis
- Explain how generic competitive strategies apply to the aviation markets and which are relevant to these markets;
- List the main actors in the air transport markets and describe their constraints and interactions
- Describe the individual strategies of the main actors in the air transport sector (airlines, airports, manufacturers…)
- Analyse medium and long-term strategies for different types of airline (pricing and revenue management, network choice, alliances, fleet choice, risk management, etc.) with regard to the evolution of markets and the interactions with other air transport actors.
- Critically assess the current strategies of the air transport players and propose improvements, using concepts of industrial economics and strategic tools covered during the course.
