AE6014E - Engine & Powerplant
Objectives
General objective:
This module provides the basics required for understanding the aero-thermodynamic operation of the various types of engine, for the purpose of engine certification and for certification of the propulsion system on an aircraft.
After the course, the student will be able to:
- To be able to understand the basics of aerothermodynamics principles of the various type of engines.
- To understand the main requirements for the certification of engines and powerplant.
Detailed objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student shall be able to:
- Describe the main architectures and components of propulsion systems (turbofan, turboprop, gas turbines), their control systems, and their interactions with the aircraft
- Describe the principles of the integration of a propulsion system onto the aircraft, the systems involved and their modes of failure
- Quote and interpret the certification requirements and means of compliance applicable to the propulsion systems and their integration onto the aircraft
- Improve, in autonomy, his/her knowledge of the regulatory certification texts applicable to engines and powerplant systems
